Established in 1924, USC College’s School of International Relations is the second-oldest school of international affairs in the United States and the third-oldest in the world. Located in the heart of Los Angeles, a multicultural metropolis, the school has been at the forefront of the field for more than 75 years.

Today it is a small, dynamic, fast-moving institution within the College that is preparing students to be part of the challenging, ever-changing world of international relations.

The low faculty-to-student ratio allows undergraduates, and all graduate and doctoral students to interact in small seminars with distinguished faculty. Faculty have expertise in all regions of the world, with a particular emphasis on the Pacific Rim.

The diversity of students and faculty provides opportunities to meet with faculty, students, business leaders and policymakers, who come to USC from throughout the Pacific Basin and the world. The Center for International Studies promotes advanced research and sustained discussion of theoretical and policy issues in international political and economic affairs.

In the classroom, students examine how governments interact and the impact that other organizations, corporations, social and workers’ groups bring to bear on trade and policy. Rigorous analysis, stimulations, practice negotiations and problem solving prepare students to thrive in the global marketplace of ideas, commerce and foreign affairs.

Students often complete an advanced level of foreign language instruction. Many spend a semester or summer studying abroad, obtain an internship in Washington, D.C., or work in global organizations like the Foreign Trade Association, CARE, the World Affairs Council and the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce.

Degrees include a B.A. in international relations, a B.A. in global business and a combined B.A./M.A. Minors include global communication, international policy and management, international urban development, Pacific Rim development, and peace and conflict studies.
