Graduate Admissions

Graduate admissions standards are competitive and based on evidence of an outstanding record in art history. USC requires that Ph.D. students be admitted to both the Graduate School and the Department of Art History. The Graduate School's general admission requirements include official transcripts of all previous college and university work and official results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or TOEFL. Applying for admission to our doctoral program is a two-part process. For your application to be considered, you must accurately complete both Part One and Part Two and submit required documents according to the following instructions. All materials and applications are due on or before December 1, 2009

Part One- USC Graduate Admissions

  1. Fill out the Online Graduate Admission Application
  2. Submit Official Transcript
    The USC Graduate Admission Office requires academic records from all colleges and universities you have attended.
  3. Resume
    Upload resume as part of the online Graduate Admission Application.
  4. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or TOEFL Scores
    The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or TOEFLscores is required for admission to our doctoral program. No exceptions will be granted.

Part Two- USC College Department of Art History

  1. Art History Supplemental Application for Fall 2010
    This form provides the department with additional required information.
  2. Official Transcripts
    Please send additional official transcripts with your supplemental application.
  3. GRE or TOEFL scores (please send official scores to the Dept. of Art History)
  4. (3) Letters of Recommendation (Sealed hard copies only)
  5. Personal statement
    Describe your past academic experience, future academic goals, and specifically your interest in the USC Department of Art History
  6. Research Paper
    Please submit a previously written academic research paper
