Student Life

A high percentage of our graduate students serve mainly as teaching assistants and/or research assistants during their tenure in the program. However, fellowships and grants are available within the program and from external sources. These allow our students to solely concentrate on the research for their dissertation.

Follow along with IEB PhD candidate Zhijie "Jack" Tseng and Dr. Xiaoming Wang of the Natural Histormy Museum of Los Angeles on their journey to the Tibetan Plateau, where they will be conducting important fieldwork this year. Jack will be making frequent updates on his blog.

"We will use our cell-phone internet connection and a laptop to make daily/weekly updates on our discoveries throughout the field season, and post photos of new specimens and videos of exciting things (we just purchased a HD camcorder for this year; I am the unofficial filmmaker now) as they happen. We hope this will bring people closer to our experiences. I will also use the site to report on my experiences in China during the 2008-2009 year abroad, i.e. what foods NOT to eat, etc." -- Jack Tseng
