Summary Statement of Research Interests |

| In general, I am interested in the material culture of religions and the role of the senses in religion. I work on medieval South Asian materials and the main focus of my current research is the sense of smell and the use of aromatics in South Asian religions: Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. I am also currently interested in the technology of writing materials; the role of old age in religion; the importance of rock crystal and other minerals in South Asian religions, as well as the importance of poison in South Asian culture and religion. | |
