‘Teach-In on the War in Iraq’ Educates Crowd

“Whatever the horrors of war, there are things to be learned in the midst of it,” Rabbi Susan Laemmle, USC’s dean of religious life, told the 250 students, faculty and staff who attended the “Teach-In on the War in Iraq” on March 27. Sponsored by USC College and ONEUSC, the event, held in E.F. Hutton Park, was intended to promote open debate and civil discussion. After a welcome by College Dean Joseph Aoun, Steve Ross, professor of history, moderated the two-hour teach-in, which incorporated faculty speakers—addressing war and its impact on five facets of society: politics, ethics, the media, the economy and peace—and an open microphone for audience questions.
