New Loyola High Head Welcomed

By Wayne Lewis

USC College hosted a reception welcoming the Rev. Gregory Goethals as president-elect of Loyola High School of Los Angeles on April 6 at the Tyler Prize Pavilion.

Trustee Edward Roski Jr. (’62), Goethals and College Dean Joseph Aoun spoke to the gathered Trojan-Loyola alumni and USC administrators about the close relationship between the two institutions. Roski proudly touted his status as an alumnus of both Loyola and USC.

“Students come to college with spirituality,” said Aoun, “and there they too often lose that spirituality. At USC we encourage students — whether they’re Catholic or Protestant, Jewish or Muslim — to further explore their own beliefs and traditions, and to learn more about the beliefs and traditions of others.”

Goethals paid homage to his predecessors, saying, “I follow in great footsteps, and I hope to leave Loyola in great shape for those who come after me.”
