For 25 years Joseph Aoun has contributed to the dramatic advancement of USC College. Under his deanship, the College has:

  • Refined the undergraduate and graduate curriculum and strengthened leadership in emerging fields of study

  • Launched the Tradition & Innovation initiative, which has brought in nearly $200 million to date

  • Added 11 endowed chairs and professorships

  • Achieved an unprecedented 51 percent increase in the College’s sponsored research

  • Increased the diversity and size of the faculty from 350 to 500 through intensive junior hiring and the Senior Faculty Hiring Initiative

  • Completed the construction of two new, cutting-edge research buildings, the Dornsife Cognitive Neuroscience Imaging Center and the Molecular and Computational Biology Building

  • Forged partnerships with nine other USC schools and seven museums and cultural institutions outside USC, leading to the establishment of new institutes and centers

  • Enhanced the College’s financial well-being, upping College fund-raising from an average of $18 million per year to $40 million in 2005, and leaving substantial cash reserves that will allow continued growth

  • Strengthened USC’s community bonds through support of the Joint Educational Project, involvement with Hebrew Union College, and the creation of the USC Institute for Armenian Studies and the USC Korean Studies Institute
