Biography

Over the last couple of years, Milena Gueorguieva has been lost in a world inhabited by somewhat clumsy ghosts, cruel yet irresistible villains, feeble damsels in distress, and, even more interestingly, violent, oversexed women going on killing rampages. Lately, her friends have been trying to pull her out of this bygone era by scheduling weekly screenings of contemporary horror movies. These are the times when she is asked to get serious and tell them what she really works on (yes, she does hang out with a bunch of geeks). So, this is what she tells them: she studies violence in 18th and 19th century British Gothic novels, focusing on the intersection between gender construction and literary representations of violence in the hopes of locating cultural spaces for renegotiation of normative constructions of nurturing femininity; of course, studying gratuitous violence in the pulp fiction of the period is the way to go, as she sees it.
