- Korean Studies Institute
In 1995 the USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences established the Korean Studies Institute under the East Asian Studies Center to serve as the university���s principal organization for the promotion of education and research on Korea. In less than a decade, KSI was established as an independent institute and relocated to the newly renovated Dosan Ahn Chang Ho Family House on the UPC campus. The Institute���s mission is to serve as a major international resource for the study of Korea and its people, through its faculty, graduate and undergraduate studies, scholarly research, public events, and community programs. - Provost's Distinguished Visitors Program
Since 1996, the USC Provost���s Distinguished Visitor Program has provided support for leaders in education, research, business, government, and the arts and letters to visit the university for stays of two weeks or longer. A faculty committee selects prospective visitors based on proposals submitted by faculty nominators. To receive funding from the Office of the Provost, nominations must be multidisplinary and also must be endorsed by a faculty member of a school other than the school of the nominator. The program pays travel and lodging expenses for invited guests, but not honoraria. Visitors are expected to interact with faculty and students in seminars, lectures and informal meetings, and these should be outlined in the proposal. The Japan Media Review, created in 2003, was a joint project of EASC, the Annenberg School of Communication, and GLOCOM (the Center for Global Communications at the International University of Japan). An online-only journal, the Japan Media Review presented weekly reports, articles, and interviews on technologies that change the practice, ethics, law, business and politics of journalism in Japan. For more information, please visit JMR. - K-12 Outreach through the Center for Active Learning in International Studies (CALIS)
Formerly a joint project of EASC and the School of International Relations, CALIS is now overseen solely by the School of International Relations. CALIS provides outreach to local schools with programs that seek to offer models and material resources at the national level. The Center serves as a regional site of the California Subject Matter Projects, focusing on professional development programs for teachers to foster teacher leadership and collegial support networks.
