The Certificate

About the Program

This program is designed for students in a wide variety of fields including engineering, natural and social sciences, planning and policy, education, communication, international relations, business, and architecture. There are two primary audiences for this certificate — one is for enrolled graduate students as a way of providing an application focus that both enhances their graduate experience and provides them with marketable experience as they move into the job market. The other audience is mid-career professionals who have the need to gain knowledge and experience in key energy areas, but who cannot devote the time towards a Masters program.

The certificate is designed to provide students with 4 basic fundamentals including an understanding of:
  • energy technologies;
  • options for dealing with energy issues;
  • how to assess alternatives; and
  • how to integrate this knowledge.

Upon completion of the certificate, students will be able to read the literature on energy issues, and critique analysis and conclusions based on their knowledge. Students will be able to help employers understand alternative energy options, understand the role of policy and social factors, and help identify solutions.
