Description of Research

Summary Statement of Research Interests

Professor Corsetti researches Neoproterozoic-Cambrian Earth history, using integrated chemostratigraphy, biostratigraphy, and lithostratigraphy. He also investigates carbonate petrology, sedimentology and geochemistry; biogeology and origin of life; biogeology of critical intervals; trends in carbonate diagenesis through time; carbon and strontium isotope stratigraphy; and field sedimentology.

Other Research

I was on sabbatical in Fall of 2006 (hence my slim meeting attendance this year). I started new research projects with Thorsten Becker (USC) in a field quite unrelated to my usual research...this resutled in a PNAS paper published in 2007. In addition to my ongoing projects, I've started a new research project with Prof. Will Berelson (USC) and Prof. John Spears (Colorado School of mines) studying Yellowstone hot spring deposits as analogues for ancient environments. The combination of a sedimentologist (me) with a geochemist (Will) and a molecular biologist (John) represents a "first" in terms of a true geobiologic collaboration with respect to the Yellowstone environment., 2006-2007
