Description of Research

Summary Statement of Research Interests

Professor Edmands studies conservation biology and evolutionary genetics of marine populations using a combination of fieldwork, molecular genetic analyses and controlled breeding programs. Using a tidepool copepod, Tigriopus californicus, as a model for understanding outbreeding depression, the Edmands lab is developing a genetic linkage map and assessing interactions within and between chromosomes that reduce the fitness of interpopulation hybrids. Other projects include studies of genetic structure in striped marlin and in calico bass.
