Professor Hogen-Esch researches the synthesis of light emitting macrocyclic polymers and block copolymers for light harvesting and other applications; and synthesis and properties of water-soluble copolymers containing perfluorocarbon groups for use as artificial blood substitutes.
Professor Hogen-Esch is currently synthesizing such polymers with naphthalene and fluorene and similar pendent groups having anthracene, perylene and similar energy acceptors.
