Summary Statement of Research Interests

Dr. Roseman researches the migration and settlement of ethnic populations, especially within the United States. A special interest has been in the role of ties between places in migration decision making. Current work is focusing on broad ethnic settlement changes throughout the twentieth century across the whole country. He has secondary interests in the historical geography of the Upper Mississippi River, downtown Los Angeles, and the USC neighborhood. Dr. Roseman has a downtown Los Angeles Web site, is co-editor of placesonline.org, a Web portal for place-based sites world-wide, and serves as an advisor to the USC Office of Civic and Community Relations on various projects that serve the USC neighborhood.
