Description of Research

Summary Statement of Research Interests

Professor Sellers' research interests focus on comparative politics with an emphasis on European politics, on urban and regional political economy, on multi-level governance and on environmental law and policy. His research agenda centers around comparative analysis of institutions and state society relations from the "bottom-up" perspective of cities and communities. Ongoing projects include the first systematic international database of local governance institutions, a comparative historical study of the role of urban regions in European and North American political development, collaborative international studies of contemporary metropolitan political transformations and urban environmental governance, and a study of efforts to create new alternatives for inner city economic development in downtown Los Angeles.
