Professor Teng researches theoretical and observational seismology, earth's strong ground motion and earthquake prediction, and tectonic mapping using seismological data. He also studies new techniques in seismic tomography and advanced seismic instrumentation. Professor Teng is currently investigating microearthquakes and waterflooding in oil fields along the newport-Inglewood faults in Los Angeles and the Long Beach Seismic monitoring system. Other current projects include Seismic research techniques in Taiwan, surface wave approach to the crustal structure of mainland China, and research on earthquake prediction and control in the Los Angeles Basin area .
