777 Tower (Pelli Building)

777 South Figueroa

This 250 million dollar building, designed by world-famous architect Cesar Pelli, reaches 53 stories, with over 1 million square feet of available office space. But why did they stop at 725 feet when they could have made it 777 feet tall?

7th St. Marketplace

725 S. Figueroa

Completed in 1986, this is a "suburban" shopping center arranged around a sunken court. It is one of several such shopping centers in downtown Los Angeles, as retailing has gone full circle: from big department stores and specialty stores on downtown streets, to suburban enclosed malls, and finally back to downtown in the form of enclosed malls. Actually, 7th Marketplace is the only one in downtown Los Angeles to have an outdoor courtyard. PHOTO: G. DeVerteuil
