7th St. Marketplace725 S. FigueroaCompleted in 1986, this is a "suburban" shopping center arranged around a sunken court. It is one of several such shopping centers in downtown Los Angeles, as retailing has gone full circle: from big department stores and specialty stores on downtown streets, to suburban enclosed malls, and finally back to downtown in the form of enclosed malls. Actually, 7th Marketplace is the only one in downtown Los Angeles to have an outdoor courtyard. PHOTO: G. DeVerteuil |
