Mia is a junior from Whittier, California. She is interested in physical geography and GIS and hopes she can apply these interests to a job with the government after she graduates. Before she changed her major to geography, Mia was a music major who played the French horn for eight years. In her free time, she will occaisionally practice her instrument.
Meredith Dorneker, Geography / Communication; 2006
Meredith is interested in environmental conservation and community service. She is a senior intern in the USC Admission Center. Meredith was a team leader in the Alternative Spring Break to Death Valley. She also plays trombone in the Trojan Marching Band.
Gregory Elwood; 2009
A native of the City ofLos Angeles , Gregory brings a unique perspective to the study of Geography. A background as an artist and extensive experience with land navigation in the military have fostered in Gregory a love of maps that now finds expression in Cartography and GIS. Returning to school after a lengthy career in computer graphics for the film and television industries is the latest step in a major career change and re-invention of himself. Gregory lives with his wife and daughter and three dogs in Thousand Oaks , Ventura County , and loves exploring the Mojave desert .

Tim Heinecke, Geography / History; 2007
Tim just returned from a year of study overseas at Queen Mary University of London. His interests in Geography include urban and historical geography. Tim is experienced with GIS software and currently works with a company that provides mapping services.
Ann Hough; 2008
Ann grew up in Asia and has traveled extensively throughout the region. Her special interests in Geography lie in conservation of coastal and wetlands. Ann is a mentor in Women and Youth Supporting Each other (WYSE), a local program encouraging high school women near USC to be motivated and optimistic. Over the summer she has been working as a private swimming instructor for young children and children with disabilities.
Christopher Huddleston; 2007
I am a member of the varsity track team here at school and am also a member of Air Force ROTC. Although I do not plan to pursue a future in geography, I am interested in the political side of geography and it has helped me understand world politics more. This is important because of my future in the military as either an Air Force or Marine Corps pilot. In my spare time, I have found a new love for the beach and I plan to pursue surfing more when i graduate and I also enjoy skiing/snowboarding in the winter.
Jirawud Jirasook; 2007
Jirawud was born in Thailand, and studied in England before coming to USC. He has conducted field work in physical geography, and studied transportation systems in Thailand. Currently his interests have turned to human geography. Eventually, Jirawud wants to return to Thailand to work on his country's development.
Marina Jordan-Viola; 2007
Marina's interests focus on demographic and boundary issues of immigrant communities, but she is also fascinated by potential impacts of climate change. She studied in a summer program in Mexico, and she has some experience in data analysis and GIS. Marina is the president of Albedo, the USC Geography Club.
Juliet Kahne; 2007
After 9 long years as a professional makeup artist, Juliet has returned to school to study what she feels matters above all elseā¦the physical environment. As a fifth generation Californian, born in San Francisco and raised here in Topanga Canyon, Juliet is well aware of her native California surroundings. Her interests lie in the complexity of city life, the study of physical geography, the importance of enforcing environmental education, and the protection of national parks. Odd as it may seem, she is also working towards a minor in screenwriting where she hopes to bring her geographical knowledge into an art form.
Sonia Lam; 2008
Sonia comes to USC from Hong Kong. She is interested in a career in cartography. Before coming to USC Sonia participated in a field research project on the coastal environment of Vietnam. Earlier this summer she was involved in a GIS-based noise mapping project for the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is also interested in teaching, and spent a year tutoring English at a local youth center.
Park Ling
Park is born in Hong Kong and immigrated toCanada at the age of four. He returned to Hong Kong after four years and continued his junior education until coming to USC. Park is concentrating in urban geography and is also a civil engineering major. He enjoys playing various sports and traveling to different places whether it is a city or a national forest.
Lee McAuliffe; 2008
Lee's principle interests are in weather, climatology and natural hazards. He has experience working with GIS software and with field techniques. He is a member of the USC Men's Crew team. Martin is interested in social/cultural geography as well as physical geography. He has experience working with GIS software. An Eagle Scout, Martin plans on becoming a high school teacher in the Pacific Northwest.
Darrell Tyrone Schulz; 2007
I spent last semester abroad at Semester at Sea where I traveled around the world on a ship. I played water polo for USC during my freshman and sophomore years winning the NCAA national championship in 2003. I am most interested inphysical geography, more specifically weather. I currently am working at Recreational Equipment, Incorporated. I am a finishing my junior year and will be graduating in May of 2007. I was borni in Lodi , CA . I have an extreme love for the outdoors and hiking. I am a christian and have a passion for international missions. I currently am involved with Campus Crusade for Christ and Young Life. I hope to remain involved in the ministry as my life continues.
Jamie D. Stern
Jamie grew up inSouthern California . She skipped three grades of high school and went on to pursue an AA degree in Liberal Arts from LAVC. She graduated valedictorian when she was 17 and immediately transferred to USC to study Geology. Nearly two years later, she discovered that her attention and desires were drawn to Geography! She hopes to later pursue Meteorology. In the last four years she has done extensive volunteer work with the Mid-Valley YMCA and a few other organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House. These past two and a half years she has enjoyed being a ballet instructor for toddlers and young girls at the Mid-Valley YMCA. Her most recent interest has been learning the art of fencing as a member of the USC Fencing Club.
Jacob Vawter; Geography/Economics
Jacob is a native of the Pacific Northwest, but don't let that fool you - he doesn't dance whenL.A. gets rain. Geography has been a lifelong passion for Jacob, starting with an early affinity for maps and evolving into a keen desire to know more about the world in which we live. He hopes to attend graduate school, become fluent in many languages, and travel extensively. Jacob's interests lie primarily in human geography. He hopes to use the knowledge he gains in geography and economics classes in careers centered around analysis and international issues.

Esther was born in San Francisco, and grew up in Hong Kong. She has traveled extensively in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and South Africa. While in Hong Kong she participated in field research on the coastal environment of Vietnam. Esther holds an open water scuba diving license.
