Crawfords Endow Scholarship

Jim and Janie Crawford wanted to endow a scholarship fund at USC.  “Since my graduation in 1958, I have marveled at the growth of the USC campus, and how it has been consistently raising the bar on its standards for excellence in the academic arena,” said Janie Kesling Crawford, an International Relations major with the College.

In December 2007 the James A. and Janie K. Crawford Endowed Scholarship Fund in the USC College of Letters, Arts & Sciences was established through a gift of assets from the Crawford’s IRA accounts.

“My husband, Jim (University of Maine 1951) and I are delighted to have this opportunity to facilitate the goals of talented students in financial need who wish to be a part of the USC family,” explained Janie.  “Achieving their dreams of a USC education in a chosen field can lead students to those same values in their careers and as members of society,” added Jim.  “This is what we hope for with our endowment.”

Janie’s family’s USC alumni history includes her grandfather, DDS 1913, her father USC ‘29, Janie in ‘58 and their daughter in ‘85.  “We knew we wanted to do something meaningful for USC, but believed it would be through our Wills, not while we are alive,” continued Janie.  “What joy we will have in meeting and getting to know our scholarship recipients each year.” 

Best of all, the Crawford Endowed Scholarship will carry on their legacy of educational excellence and intellectual curiosity, and will honor one of USC’s more loyal alumni families.
