A great research university such as USC is defined by its ability to expand the frontiers of new knowledge. With a faculty of nearly 500 scholars, USC College supports systematic inquiry in all areas of the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. In just the past 5 years, the College has attracted 160 of the world’s leading scholars and rising stars who, with their USC colleagues, will define the concept of a research institution for the 21st Century.
The University of Southern California is the ninth-largest recipient of federal research dollars among all private universities in the United States, and sponsored research has nearly doubled at USC over the last 10 years to $420 million a year. The College is proud to count among its ranks a Nobel Prize winner, 10 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 29 Guggenheim fellowship holders and 10 members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Central to the research endeavors of the College are contributions of graduate and undergraduate students, researchers who will become the next generation of world-renowned scientists and scholars. Research funds are available for both graduate and undergraduate research at USC, and an annual colloquium rewards the most promising work of USC College undergraduates.
