International Work

To encourage educational use of the testimonies in the Institute’s archive in the countries and regions in which they originated, the Institute forms partnerships with governmental and non-governmental entities to develop educational resources. These partner institutions develop testimony-based educational materials that address local histories and other topics or themes of interest in the native languages of students.

One important operational principle of the Institute’s international work is to be attentive to local sensitivities and respond to on-the-ground challenges in each country. In addition to building programs uniquely suited to local contexts, the Institute seeks partnerships with entities that have a national reach within their countries.

In short, the Institute’s international work:

  • involves partnership with a governmental entity or non-governmental organization.
  • creates educational resources in local languages based on video testimony and other documents and sources.
  • is customized to the particular context of the country and responds to specific needs for resources given the country’s history and contemporary educational landscape.

The programs that the Institute develops with international partners typically follow an arc employed by many other organizations involved in educational work—namely, developing a concept, identifying pedagogical goals, aligning materials with national and/or local curricular standards (if applicable), drafting lessons, distributing lessons, training teachers on the use of lessons, and evaluating and assessing the work accomplished to determine possible future work.
